Congratulations to my old colleagues at Springboard Research for the long awaited acquisition by Forrester Research. It will be interesting to see how this will go given the history of acquisitions by Forrester and very different culture and approach of the two firms. Clearly it gives Forrester a cheap back end in India which will potentially change their overall model.
What excites me most about the consolidation and loss of Springboard as an independent analyst firm is that it allows me to recompose my focus on emerging markets.
From the beginning I have focused capioIT on emerging technologies in emerging markets. For a range of largely unplanned reasons, the focus to date has been more on the emerging technology objectives of capioIT. This has led me to examine and advise on markets such as Board Portals, Office Resource Productivity suites and emerging parts of the BI market.
This has been very rewarding and part of the reason why I have met with well over 35 new organisations in the last few months. I will continue to be pushed to these emerging technologies by end user customers and am frankly gaining an entirely new understanding of the pervasive nature of technology for the modern organisation. Computerised bike lockers through to enabling the I-Pad for a Board of Directors are just two of the areas of activity.
I am going to spend more time in the next few months focusing on emerging markets geographically. I have had requests from many vendors to do this. It was partially delayed because frankly, there is only so much you can do, and the market disruptions in the Middle East and North African markets dampened demand.
The taxonomy and competitive analysis that I developed will be very successful in accelerating this focus. Expect to see research on
- Asia Pacific BI Solution providers
- South Africa Services
- Turkey IT Services
- An innovative way to look at the cloud opportunity for vendors
amongst many other things.
I thank you for your support to date and look forward to helping you more moving forward.
